Description of shoot:
With tone, I found myself taking a lot of pictures of physical items that have been altered by lighting in certain ways to emphasis the tones. That's why a lot of my images were taken indoors as the lighting is sometimes more intense and the more intense the lighting, the more there is a contrast in the tones. I think tones are very important in all images even images that are capturing the other elements. This is because the tones on the item that is being photographed, make the item appear 3D and also makes the image more interesting. As without tones all the colours in photos would be very solid, making the overall image quite dull and not very complex.
Image I liked:
I really liked this image and it's an exmaple of an image I took that involves better lighting making the tones contrast more. The dark shadows emphasis the contours of the structure and without these shadows the picture wouldn't be as interesting as the shape wouldn't appear as complex.
Progression and image I disliked:
I think with the two above images, the lighting was not quite harsh enough to show the lighter tones. This makes them quite subtle and it's not as obvious where the light source is coming from. That's why I think if I was to repeat this task I would find more harsh and definate light.
Even though these images do have tones, I think they are very subtle and they don't add any more interest to the images, making them lack personality. That's why I think to improve this shoot I would focus on adjusting the lighting to fit the landscape of the images to create more of a contrast between tones and shadows.
Images from internet:
I liked how this one shows a gradual and clear change throughout the flower from the dark shadows and the highlighted sections. This can be easily done with an object and placing bright lighting on one side of it.
This image also shows the highlighting effect and I like how it's on a person and I could do an image like this as it appears the light is coming from the sun and she is facing it.
